Nutrition supplies the body with the energy and nutrients needed to maintain a healthy weight and sustain activity. This occurs through eating a balanced diet that meets the USDA dietary guidelines, incorporates variety and moderation in food selections and considers food safety in storage and preparation of food.

Nutrition is one of three key components of physical wellness. The other components -- just as important -- are disease prevention and physical activity.

Every body is different. Every body needs a different balance of nutrients to supply energy; maintain, gain or lose weight; fuel brain activity and more.

Many of us have specific dietary needs, whether due to personal choice or health status. However, avoiding some foods means that you also miss out on the nutrients they contain. Take time to ensure that your dietary plan maintains the critical balance of vitamins, minerals and energy sources that your body needs.
